HONEST WORK AND THE LONG VIEW

PENTA’S SUSTAINABILITY JOURNEY

Sustainability

Driving sustainable

You know what, when you’ve been in this business as long as we have, you learn a few things. Sure, you’ve got to live in the present, savour the moment and not let life pass you by. That’s not all though. You have to keep an eye on the future, or else you’ll end up with nothing left to savour at all.

This ain’t a simple thing to do, there’s no quick fix and there are multiple elements in play here. It isn’t just about protecting Mother Nature – as beautiful as she is. We’ve also got to take care of our communities, our neighbourhoods, the local people that make us tick.

Juggling all this is no small task, and when you think about the big picture there’s a lot to consider, but what are we going to do, bury our heads in the sand and ignore it? ABSOLUTELY NOT. We know we have a responsibility to take care of our people and the planet. So that’s exactly what we’re going to do.

You’ve landed in the place where we’re going to tell you how we do this, but if you are a real stickler for detail, then you can dive into our full Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) strategy in PDF form with the button below.

Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) strategy

FIVE BIG ONES - THE BUILDING BLOCKS OF A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE THAT WORKS FOR ALL

Here at Penta, we have a combination of short and long-term goals to ensure that we operate as sustainably as possible both now and in the future. These aren’t random, the UN has an established framework of 17 recommended development goals that are applicable to people, businesses, and countries all over the world.

Given that the number five is pretty important in Penta’s history, it’s only fitting that we select five of these goals with topics that are close to home for us, really commit to them and give it everything we’ve got.

Gender Equality

Reduced Inequalities

Sustainable Cities and Communities

Responsible Consumption and Production

ENVIRONMENTAL

Ultimately our goal is to be as climate friendly as we can be. That isn’t always easy in our line of work, but we’re damn well going to try. Being transparent is a huge part of this, so here’s a few things we’re working on:

SOCIAL

Penta is all about the people. We’re a neighbourhood hotel, it’s in our nature. We have an obligation to take care of not only our guests and staff, but the people that comprise our local community too.

SHORT TERM

Celebrating our neighbours and local culture – We host loads of events such as art exhibitions and live music in our hotels, giving a platform to local creatives.

LONG TERM

Staff Wellbeing and Mental health – We want to maintain a continuous, open dialogue and encourage our staff to speak freely on the subject. We won’t be afraid to implement new policies and processes if it will better the support we can give our employees.

GOVERNANCE

We know who we are, and we won’t pretend to be anything else. Our vision is to revive the original meaning of hospitality whilst we try our best to leave things better than we found them. We have strong morals and we’re going to stick to them:

SHORT TERM

KPIs and action plans for our ESG Strategy – It’s all good talking the talk, but what’s that worth without walking the walk? We’re committed to our plans and we track and measure to make sure that we stay on track.

LONG TERM

Living our ESG Strategy – For this to work we need to commit long term, it has to be integrated into almost everything that we do. Part of our recruitment process, part of our training. Everyone needs to be on the same page and pulling in the same direction.

Partnerships and Collaboration

We know we can’t do everything alone. We recognise the strength and the benefits of solidarity and collaboration. That’s why our partnerships are carefully considered, and with some great companies and organisations. Here are a few of them:

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

In case you were wondering, here are a few questions we often get asked about green or sustainable topics…

Your room can be cleaned every day if that’s what you really want, but it’s mostly likely not necessary, so why waste the resources and energy?

We do! We already have some popular options across our menus and we are always looking to expand.

This is an ongoing process for us, obviously it isn’t that you can just change these things overnight, but it’s certainly the end goal for us.

Plastic keycards remain a sustainable option for our hotel operations due to their durability, reusability, and compatibility with electronic systems. They can be recycled and reused multiple times, reducing waste and minimizing environmental impact.
