Vienna: Like a local

Vienna: Like a local

This month we touched base with our awesome team at Pentahotel Vienna to get the insider tips on the City of Music (with a sneaky addition from our Head of Brand Marketing, who also used to call the city home). Prosperous and innovative but with a rich culture and history, it’s no wonder Vienna is continually ranked as one of the most liveable cities in the world.

1. The right spot for people watching.

The bank of the Donaukanal between Tel Aviv Beach and Strandbar Herrmann is great for people watching, especially in summer. And if you plan to go a bit further out, the Donauinsel is the perfect playground.

2. Where to go to get away from the crowds.

Kahlenberg! This hill on the edge of Vienna has amazing views over the city!

3. A must for music lovers.

Substance is one of the most popular stores for EDM in Vienna and it also has a great selection of Free Jazz, Techno, Hardcore and Indie Rock records. Their store on Westbahnstrasse is great for a browse but they also offer click & collect if you want to pick up some vinyl and don’t have an afternoon to kill.

4. Unmissable galleries or museums for any self-respecting art buff.

Good luck choosing! Vienna is full of amazing institutions. Start off at the aptly named MuseumsQuartier, check out the gorgeous MAK (Museum of Applied Arts), and satisfy your thirst for knowledge at the Natural History and Technical museums.

5. The best local market and what to buy there.

Naschmarkt, where you can buy spices, meat, fish and vegetables from all around the world. Already done it? Check out the Brunnenmarkt too.

6. Place you would take your grandma?

“Knödelmanufaktur”, because they’ve got a huge range of different dumplings. Sweet, salty, sour: you name it, they’ve got it.

7. What’s unique to your city?

“Wiener Schmäh” (which means our sense of humour) is very unique! And of course the traditional Viennese cafes in the city centre!
