Summer in Wiesbaden: Wine Festivals, Music and More
Thinking about a summer getaway? Wiesbaden should be right at the top of your list! This charming Hessian capital is famous for its thermal springs, and as Germany’s largest spa town, it’s packed with baths, pools, and wellness spots that promise pure relaxation. But there’s so much more to do than just soak away your troubles... Wiesbaden is buzzing with events all summer long. Whether you’re a wine lover, a music buff, or a culture vulture, there’s something here for you. Here are our top picks:
For Wine Lovers: Rheingauer Wine Week
Every August, Wiesbaden transforms into the “Longest Wine Bar in the World.” From August 8 to 17, the annual “Rheingauer Weinwoche” takes over Schlossplatz, the Dern’sche Gelände, Rathausplatz, and Marktkirche. You can sample Rieslings and sparkling wines from Wiesbaden and the wider Rheingau region, pair them with tasty bites, and enjoy live music across three stages. With around 120 stalls, you can easily lose track of time and maybe you’ll even discover your new favourite vino.
Can’t make those dates? No problem: the region hosts several more wine festivals worth visiting, including:
· Rüdesheimer Weinfest (August 14–18)
Under the banner “Summer of Riesling,” this romantic market-square festival pours wines from across the globe along with live music, and a pleasant laid-back vibe.
· Rauenthaler Kirchweih- und Weinfest (August 15–18)
One of Rheingau’s oldest wine fairs, here you can taste the locally celebrated vintage that was crowned “Best Wine in the World” back in 1867.
For Music Fans: Rheingau Music Festival
Running June 21 to September 6, the Rheingau Musik Festival is a must for any music lover. Over 150 concerts take place in stunning venues across the region. Everything from classical recitals in historic castles to open‑air gigs in the Kurpark. You might catch stars like Revolverheld, Nico Santos, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Gregory Porter, or Gianna Nannini under the summer sky. And if you’re after something different, dive into jazz, flamenco, music cabaret, or literary‑music mashups. With such a varied lineup, there’s genuinely something for everyone.
For Culture Enthusiasts: Intercultural Summer Fest
On September 6, Schlossplatz will come alive with dance, music, and mouthwatering dishes from around the world at Wiesbaden’s Interkulturelles Sommerfest. Beyond the stage performances, you’ll find information booths from local clubs and initiatives celebrating diversity. It’s truly a wonderful showcase of Wiesbaden’s open‑hearted spirit.
