A chat with Peter Schuitema

Who needs a uniform when you can look damn good? For a few years now, the Penta team in each hotel has been dressed up in quality (and comfy) garments by Kuyichi. But is this just a fashion statement or is there more to it? We talk to Peter Schuitema, co-owner/founder of the Dutch label (and massive burger fan).

Penta: What do you think of garden gnomes?
Peter: My parents used to have a few in the garden a long, long time ago… To be honest I never really understood why anyone would put them up!

Penta: Where do you feel most at home? Where is your ‘hood?
Peter: I feel at home everywhere as long as I have my loved ones around me, but my ‘hood is in my small town De Meern (near Utrecht, Netherlands).

Penta: Tell us about a project that is keeping you busy in this period.
Peter: Recycling is one of the most important things we are working on. We simply MUST stop creating mountains of textile waste.

Penta: Who are your role models?
Peter: My parents have always been my role models; they lived a “simple” life and never bought anything they didn’t truly need. They were married for more than 50 years and I would like to think they raised their kids with the right values.

Peter: My wife. But as usual… she didn’t pick up :)

Penta: Pizza or burgers?
Peter: Definitely burgers! Sometimes it’s really a craving, you know? I also tried some of Penta’s and I could definitely go for another serving anytime.
