Wiesbaden: Like a local

This month we come to you from Pentahotel Wiesbaden. The perfect combination of tradition and modern, Wiesbaden has a long history and is famous for its hot springs and Sekt (German sparkling wine). If you have entered into our 50th Anniversary prize draw (and if you haven’t, what are you waiting for?) then you might be lucky enough to enjoy a dinner and spend the night at Pentahotel Wiesbaden.

1. Where to go to get away from the crowds.

Neroberg is the perfect place to go and look over all of Wiesbaden. Hike or take the historic Nerobergbahn, Germany’s oldest water-powered funicular railway. Enjoy the views and see all the lights shining!

2. A must for music lovers.

Kulturzentrum Schlachthof is Wiesbaden’s former slaughterhouse - today a cultural centre that hosts concerts, parties, theatre and comedy or even trade fairs: It is surrounded by a park with lawns, a beach volleyball court, a boule court, a track for skateboarders and children's play equipment.

3. Any indie shops you recommend?

At Plattenbox you can find a large selection of new and used LPs, singles and maxis covering the best of rock, pop, hip-hop, metal, jazz, soul, funk, electro, new wave, punk, prog rock, hits, classical and world music.

4. Unmissable galleries or museums for any self-respecting art buff?

Museum Wiesbaden. There is always something new to see!

5. Where to go after dark.

The Wiesbaden Casino is one of Germany's oldest and best-known casinos. Non-gamblers will still enjoy the neoclassical interior design and exhibitions, lectures and other cultural additions.

6. Tips for a rainy day.

Superfly Wiesbaden – an almost 4,000 m² trampoline park with many attractions and challenges for kids and the young at heart.

7. What’s worth checking out in the region around the city?

The Rheingau region is only 15 min from Wiesbaden. Perfect for a walk through the vineyards and enjoying a glass or two. Wine has been grown here since Roman times, and the typical grape variety for this region is Riesling.
