A FEW THINGS YOU JUST HAVE TO SEE
The Albertina – this museum is home to one of the world’s most important collections of prints, with works by Dürer, Rubens, Klimt, Schiele, Cézanne and Picasso, plus a new photographic collection.
Donauturm (Danube Tower) – standing 252 metres tall, and home to a rotating panoramic restaurant 170 metres above the ground with spectacular views of the historic city centre and the Vienna Woods.
Hofburg palace – the official seat of the President of Austria, the former royal palace also houses a conference centre, the venues for performances by the Vienna Boys Choir and the Lipizzaner stallions of the Spanish Riding School, and a number of displays and historic rooms open to the public, including the silver collection and the imperial apartments.
Österreichische Galerie Belvedere – the beautiful baroque Belvedere palace is home to Gustav Klimt’s seminal painting The Kiss, as well as major works by Schiele and Kokoschka.
The Prater – the world’s oldest amusement park, with over 200 stalls and attractions, the Prater has been a Vienna institution for more than 250 years.
St. Stephen’s Cathedral – affectionately known to locals as the ”Steffl”, this is the most important Gothic building in Austria, and home to such artistic treasures as the red marble tomb of the Holy Roman Emperor Frederick III. The unrivalled views from the top of the tower make the 343-step ascent well worth the effort.
Schönbrunn palace – Schönbrunn has always been one of Vienna’s most important sights, and over the centuries it has played host to such distinguished figures as the Empress Maria Theresa, the Emperor Franz Joseph, the Empress Sissi and Napoleon Bonaparte.
